The Things I do for Woodland School

Although, there haven't been any Woodland School sessions this week for the children I have been furthering my Forest School training so that I can continue to develop the activities and experiences that the boys can enjoy. This 'training' involved me building my own den (pictured) and sleeping in it on Saturday night. I'm pleased to report that I survived the whole night and in fact had a very good nights sleep! The training also involved cooking a 3 course meal on an open fire and a walk with my fellow Forest School leaders at night, looking for any bats that live in Nower Wood.  We were given 'bat detectors' which work on different frequencies so that we could hear the different sounds they make at night. This training is organised by The Wildlife Trust, who run many courses designed at all ages. They have just opened a new centre at Nower Wood, near Leatherhead, which features the latest in outdoor learning provision, it's certainly worth a visit if you have any time over half-term or in the Summer holidays. Alternatively, why not register to take part in their '30 Days Wild' project which lasts for the month of June. The school has been registered, but they also welcome individuals to take part . Further details are shown or can be obtained from the Wildlife Trust's website.
